The evacuation of Alsace 1939-1940

Devant  l'imminence  de  la  guerre  contre_cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ l'Allemagne,  les  autorités  nationales  décident d'évacuer the population of the Region as a matter of urgency.


On September 2 and 3, 1939, then on May 10, 1940, 374,000 Alsatians left their homes for the departments of Gers, Landes and Lot-et-Garonne for Haut-Rhinois, Dordogne, Indre and Haute-Vienne for the Bas-Rhinois.
